This subcompact crossover SUV entered the marketplace in 2018, and it continues to be a first-generation option in the 2022 model year. However, Hyundai has made numerous updates to the Kona since its launch, and this includes a few exciting improvements to the 2022 model year. The most significant difference between the 2021 and 2022 Kona lines is the introduction of the 2022 N trim level. This is a sport-minded trim level with an enhanced exterior design and a few performance-driven improvements under the hood. In addition to the N’s debut, the Kona introduces a revamped mid-level engine, a redesigned dashboard, ambient lighting, and high-end materials to the mix across the full trim lineup.
Under the hood, the 2022 Kona has the same powertrain as you may have appreciated in the 2021 version. This is a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, 147-horsepower engine. The top trims also have a carryover engine from 2021. This is a turbo 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine. However, the engine has been fine-tuned for 2022, and its horsepower rating jumps from 175 to 195. Notably, the new N trim has a turbocharged 286-horsepower engine. It also features an N Grin Shift mode that can take performance to a new level with its 286-horsepower capability.
These exciting updates to the 2022 model year are combined with a full array of carryover features from the 2021 Kona.
